Mission Statement
The Emergency Radiology Fellowship training at UF Radiology is designed to provide exceptional subspecialty training in emergency radiology. The program focuses on developing expertise in the rapid and accurate interpretation of imaging studies in trauma, acute care, and emergency situations for both adult and pediatric populations.
Fellows will receive hands-on experience in high-pressure environments, ensuring they are well-prepared to provide accurate, timely diagnostic support to emergency departments and multidisciplinary teams. The one-year fellowship will equip trainees with the knowledge and skills necessary to independently care for patients in a variety of emergency settings.
The mission of the fellowship is to prepare our graduates for employment in competitive, nationwide emergency radiology practice settings, including academic and community medical centers.
Program Aims
- To develop competent, independent ER radiologists who are skilled in the rapid interpretation of imaging studies, ensuring safe, timely, and accurate diagnosis and treatment in emergency settings.
- To train fellows in both basic and advanced imaging modalities, including X-ray, CT, MRI, and Ultrasound, for the evaluation of trauma, acute medical conditions, and critical care patients in the emergency department.
- To provide exposure and training in advanced emergency imaging techniques, including high-resolution CT for trauma, whole-body CT, MR imaging in acute neurological emergencies, and the use of ultrasound in trauma and critical care.
- To advance scholarly activity and research in emergency radiology, encouraging fellows to engage in quality improvement (QI) projects and clinical research related to emergency imaging, trauma care, and patient safety. Fellows will be expected to complete at least one scholarly project and participate in a QI initiative during their fellowship year.
- To foster involvement in resident and medical student education, including the development and delivery of lectures on emergency imaging topics. Fellows will also actively participate in case-based teaching and contribute to the educational environment of the radiology department.
- To prepare fellows for independent practice in emergency radiology, providing a strong foundation for obtaining American Board of Radiology certification and equipping them to work effectively in diverse emergency radiology settings.
