Augmented Intelligence at the Department of Radiology

Welcome to the AI webpage of the Department of Radiology at the University of Florida, Gainesville, where we strive to lead in the research and development, translation and implementation, and educational applications of AI. We are committed to the use of the latest technologies, including augmented (artificial) intelligence, for improving patient care, enhancing quality and safety, and streamlining healthcare processes.

There have been tremendous developments demonstrating great potential for the use of AI for enhancing medical imaging and more broadly healthcare processes and a patient’s journey through the healthcare enterprise. We are committed to bringing this technology to our patients by addressing the practical barriers to AI implementation and ensuring that the technology has the intended positive impact on patient care. Translation of AI technology and seamless integration into radiologists’ workflow for maximal and most impactful use is a priority at the Department of Radiology, University of Florida, Gainesville.

The Department of Radiology will also be leading a state-of-the-art research and development program in AI through the Radiomics and Augmented Intelligence Laboratory (RAIL). RAIL is involved in the inception, development, validation, and translation of clinical AI applications for precision diagnostics, streamlining of healthcare processes, and enhanced health quality and education. The RAIL laboratory is also part of the Division of Medical Physics and participates in the Medical Physics Graduate Program.
