Inquiring MSK Applicants

Overview

Our Department of Radiology is a premier state-of-the-art facility with a total of thirteen (13) CT units (including multiple DECT units), four (4) 1.5T MRI magnets, four (4) 3T MRI magnets, one (1) PET/CT unit and multiple interventional suites provides comprehensive imaging and interventional services to our level 1 trauma and tertiary care complex. During 2022, our section performed over 130,000 examinations. Our MSK team works closely with numerous other departments and sections throughout the UF Health system, in particular: Orthopedic Surgery, Non-operative Sports Medicine, Rheumatology, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Disease, and Pediatrics. As a level 1 trauma center affiliated with a major university and referral center for Orthopedic Oncology, our fellowship trainees receive superb exposure to a broad range of pathology and imaging-guided procedures. Our subspecialty practice is housed in the UF Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Institute (OSMI), a free standing outpatient center, providing opportunity for daily direct interaction with many of our referring specialists.

The Musculoskeletal Imaging Section at UF currently has four full-time physicians covering the service and performs a broad range of diagnostic imaging studies and musculoskeletal interventional procedures. Independent responsibilities for fellows include radiograph interpretation and after hours resident supervision – but there is compensation for these duties. There are also opportunities for internal moonlighting to maintain general radiology skills. Involvement in clinical research is encouraged.

UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL is nationally ranked in five (5) adult and four (4) pediatric specialties by U.S. News & World Report and provides superb medical and surgical care as well as serves as a multi-specialty referral center – including Level 1 Trauma and Orthopaedic Oncology. Recent expansions involved the opening of the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital and the state-of-the-art UF Health Heart & Vascular and Neuromedicine Hospital.

Gainesville, a diverse and progressive city with a metropolitan population of 280,000, is the home of the University of Florida and located in sunny north Florida approximately 1.5 hours from the beaches of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts and 2 hours from Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville. Gainesville is nationally acclaimed for its livability, vibrant local restaurant scene and hosts multiple annual art and music festivals throughout the year. Our school system is excellent and our warm climate offers opportunities for year-round outdoor activities.
